In an early-season match-up, the boys basketball programs for Cadott and Lake Holcombe, met Nov. 30, on Cadott’s home court. It was a battle from the beginning, with back-and-forth scoring.

The Hornets were dealt a blow in the second half, with foul trouble coming early from three starters.

“Our bench stepped up in a big way to help us out,” said Cadott coach Shawn Schoezel.

Eventually, with some big shots from junior Braden Schneider to keep the Hornets in the game, the victory was almost certain, as time ran out on the clock and the foul game began.

“This was a game with several lead changes, but we came up just short, losing 71-65,” said Lake Holcombe coach Joy Webster.

Heading the scorebook for Cadott, was Schneider, with 21 points, followed by seniors Brodee Burish and Nolan Blum, with 13 each. Blum notched 7 rebounds on the night and Schneider ended with 6.

On the Chieftains’ side, junior Brian Strzok came away with 24 points, while junior Ryley Craker and freshman Emmit Johnson each hit double digits, with 14 and 10, respectively. Senior Taye Yeager followed that with 8 points, while junior Chase Burgess had 6 points and junior Owen Meddaugh added 3.

Strzok pulled down 11 rebounds, with Burgess notching 7. Craker led with 5 assists for Lake Holcombe, followed by Yeager, with 4. Craker also finished with 3 steals, and Yeager and Strzok added 2 steals each.
