Cornell falls to Gilman

By Ginna Young

The Cornell girls basketball program hosted Gilman, in a non-league match Nov. 30, where the Chiefs kept pace with the visitors in the first half. Down by only nine points at the break, Cornell stepped up their scoring in the second half, but so did Gilman.

With the Pirates stepping up the offense, the Chiefs watched the match-up go to the visitors, 67-38.

“Gilman gave us a hard time with their half-court trap defense, creating too many turnovers to win the game,” said coach Stacy Schroeder. “The girls worked hard, but weren’t able to overcome the defense.”

Junior Bralee Schroeder led for Cornell, with 12 points, 4 rebounds and a steal, followed by junior Lauren Samardzich, who ended with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks, while junior Alyssa Bowe had 4 points and 3 steals. Freshman Haylee Ellis also got on the books, with 8 points, 3 rebounds and a block, and senior Grace Harycki added 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

Senior Teryn Close rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
