Chiefs can’t overcome the sting of the Hornets

By Ginna Young

Cornell was on their home court Dec. 4, hosting Cadott’s boys basketball program, in a non-conference match. The Chiefs were short on scoring on the night, which Cadott’s deep bench took advantage of.

Cornell was down by 21 at the half, while Cadott continued to limit the Chiefs’ scoring in the second part of the game. The Hornets were held to under 30 points by Cornell’s defense, but the deficit was too large for the Chiefs to catch up and Cadott took home a 70-32 victory.

Senior Bentley Spangler led for Cornell, with 11 points, followed by sophomore Carson Stipek, with 6, and juniors Hunter Anders and Jared Raatz, who each ended with 5 points. Freshman Bryce DeJongh connected on a three-pointer, while senior Jayden Joas-Shaw finished with 2 points.

On Cadott’s side of the scorebook, senior Nolan Blum notched 17 points on the night, with junior Braden Schneider knocking in 14. Junior Nolan Freed added 8 points, with senior Eli Burich and junior Riley Sopiarz each scoring 6 points.

Also getting in the scorebook for the Hornets, was junior Parker Davis, with 5 points, while senior Brodee Burish, and juniors Jackson Barone and Cameran Allard all added 4 points each, and junior Damon Lemm added 2.

Schneider also had 6 steals, while Freed came away with 9 rebounds and Burish had 8.
