Hornets snatch game from beneath Falcons

By Ginna Young

Coming off the fall break, the Cadott girls basketball team was ready to improve their early-season record Nov. 27, and did just that, hosting non-conference opponent Flambeau.

“The girls were excited for the first home game of the year, and they played with a lot of energy,” said coach Dave Hazuga.

Cadott came out hot in the opening half, allowing only 14 points from Flambeau, while putting up 38 on the board.

“We got more comfortable and stronger as the game went on,” said Hazuga. “The girls ability to share the ball was on display.”

The second half was much of the same and the Falcons were sent home in defeat, as Cadott handily claimed the win, 73-24.

Senior Emma Kowalczyk led for the Hornets, with 17 points, 7 steals and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Taylor Hager also had 10 rebounds, 10 assists, 7 steals and 11 points. Junior Kasey Moldrem was right in the mix, with 12 points – all from three-point shots – while senior Bradee Burish notched 10 points.

Junior Tarynn Donahue connected on three shots from beyond the arc, for 9 points, while sophomore Lilly Spaeth had two long-range shots and 3 made free throws. Junior Brooklyn Hardlicka also made good on a three-pointer, with junior McKenna Steinke and sophomore Kennedy Nerdrum both knocking in a bucket, for 2 points each.

“Defense is a work in progress,” said Hazuga.
