It was touch-and-go for senior Makenna Harel, as she was just shy of 1,000 digs for her Cadott Hornets Volleyball team, as the regular season ended. Then, came the playoffs.

The matches then became not just about winning in the post-season, but also advancing to give Harel the chance to achieve the feat. The Hornets did just that, making it all the way to the championship game Oct. 21, against Fall Creek on the road.

There, among Cadott fans, Harel reached the 1,000 mark in the middle of the second set. Since it was a high-stakes match, Harel wasn’t sure how close she was to making 1,000 digs, but the Cadott community had her back.

“I wasn’t keeping track, the crowd was keeping track,” she said.

Last year, Harel was a defense specialist, but moved to libero, which have her more opportunities to rack up digs.

“I was playing more, on the court more,” said Harel.

Harel credits her team and coaches for supporting her throughout the season, helping her reach the 1,000 milestone.

“It was a little bit bittersweet, after, thinking, this was my last game and I achieved this goal,” said Harel.
