Tridents take third in league
As the regular season wrapped up, the Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer Trident Swim team ended their year, with a dual record of 6-2.
Oct. 12 Colby Meet On the road at Colby, the Tridents faced some of their strongest competition of the year.
“The girls were very much aware of what this meet meant for their season,” said coach Matt Bunton. “They rose to the challenge, swam strong and after being down at the break, came back to get the win in the second half of the meet.”
First place finishes included junior Hannah Minton, with a time of 2:11.43, in the 200-yard freestyle and senior Madilyn Kempen in the 100-yard fly, with a time of 1:06.33, as well as in the 100-yard breaststroke, hitting the wall with a time of 1:21.28.
Additionally, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Sarah Allard, sophomore Abby Fye, Kempen and Minton took first, clocking a new season best time of 1:53.41. Junior Lauren Hanson and freshman Brooklynn Adisek also had some very strong swims, with Hanson swimming new personal best times in all four of her races.
“Ultimately, our win tonight, was a true team effort,” said Bunton. “While we didn’t get too many first place finishes, we claimed a lot of second, third and fourth place points, and that’s what made the difference. We talked about how every race matters and the girls really bought in to that, with some very strong performances.”
Oct. 20 Antigo Conference Meet The Tridents were then off to Antigo, where the Red Robbins hosted the Great Northern Conference Championship meet.
Minton was the first Trident to claim a podium finish, touching the wall in the 200 freestyle, with a season best time of 2:10.24. Later in the meet, she would take fourth place in the 400-yard freestyle, with a converted time of 5:48.73.
Kempen also earned a trip to the podium, with a sixth place finish in the 100 breaststroke, with a season best time of 1:18.87. Additionally, the 200 freestyle relay team of Allard, Fye, Kempen and Minton, finished on the podium in sixth place.
Finally, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Allard, junior Alyxandria Lunemann, Fye and Minton, earned a fourth place finish. Other personal bests swims from the night include sophomore Liv Repka and Hanson in the 100 breastroke.
Sophomore Megan DeWitt also hit a new personal best in the 400 freestyle, as well as Adisek and freshman Nayeli Schilling in the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Sidney Heath and DeWitt also dropped over 5 seconds each, in the 200 freestyle.
Lyra Moffitt, sophomore, also had several strong swims, scoring points for her team and first-year swimmer, sophomore Willow Peterson, stepped up in the final 400 freestyle relay and helped her team score several valuable points, as well.
At the end of the meet, the Tridents scored 149 points, securing third place overall, in a very strong conference.
“We have some work to do before our Sectional meet, but I’m very pleased with the progress we’ve made over the course of our season,” said Bunton.
The Tridents now compete at Merrill, Nov. 4.
