The Spencer High School Rockets varsity volleyball team found themselves on the losing side of the coin a couple of times in the last week and a-half as their season wound down.

The Rockets played the Marshfield Columbus Dons Oct. 3 at home and came up short, with set scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-11 in favor of the Dons. Spencer’s Claudia Krause had the highest server rating among those on her team who served at least 10 times; she only had one error on 11 serves for a 90.9 percent rating. Alexa Stange had the best servereceive rating, as she had no errors while receiving seven serves.

Hannah Reckner was her team’s leading hitter, with six kills. Alisia Bocchino led in assists, with 12. Stange had the most digs of anyone on her team, with 20.

Spencer then traveled to Colby for a game Oct. 5. Although the Rockets didn’t win this match either, they did manage to extend it to five sets instead of being defeated in three. Colby won the first two sets, 25-20 and 24-9, but Spencer rallied back to win the next two, 25-22 and 25-15. It all came down to the last set, which Colby claimed, 15-5. In this contest, Hannah Schreiner had the best server rating for the Rockets, placing 96.3 percent of her serves in bounds. She had just one error on 27 serves. Also, Shelby Frisch served up four aces, the most of anyone on her team. For those who returned more than one serve, Stange again had the best serve-receive rating. She attempted 41 serve-receives and only made an error on three of them. Reckner was again the leading hitter for Spencer, with 15 kills. Claudia Krause had seven and Carmen Krause had five. Bocchino had 26 assists. Stange again led in digs, with 36. Bocchino had 14 digs. Spencer had one final match against Stanley-Boyd before postseason play, which will begin this Tuesday, Oct. 17.
