LG, NG cross country teams compete at Black River Falls

The Loyal-Greenwood (LG) cross country team attended a meet at Black River Falls on Oct. 3, with a couple of runners finishing in the top five.

Summer Smith took fifth place out of 60 runners in the girls’ race, with a time of 22:58.3. Connor Genteman also took fifth, competing among 67 runners in the boys’ race. His time was 18:10.3.

LG’s Bailey Eckes finished 22nd in the girls’ race with a time of 25:04.1. Besides Genteman, the LG boys’ times were as follows: Cody Eckes took 37th in the boys’ race at 22:04. Lucas Nielsen took 42nd at 22:48.2. Wyatt Mulvaney took 47th at 23:39.5. Alesandrs Freibergs took 63rd at 30:05.7.

The LG boys took sixth place out of eight teams, with a score of 153. Other team scores were West Salem 17, Mauston 49, Ellsworth 121, Black River Falls 130, Chippewa Valley Lightning Bolts 134, Viroqua 158 and Neillsville-Granton 179.

The LG girls did not have enough participants to receive a team score.

“We had three runners not compete last night. Tough course in hot and windy conditions. Looking forward to the cool down this weekend in Arcadia,” wrote LG coach Hannah Olson in an email after the meet.

Neillsville-Granton The Neillsville-Granton (NG) cross country team also competed at Black River Falls, with Will Drinka once again leading the pack for the boys. He took 14th place with a time of 19:32. His teammate Hunter Schultz came in 31st place at 22:08.5. Koltin Luchterhand was 42nd at 25:54.7. Claiton Anderson Ruskin took 43rd at 26:03.9. Grant Slone finished 49th at 30:42.7.

On the girls’ side, NG’s Klarissa Canfield took 29th place with a time of 28:21.5. Margaret Canfield was close by, finishing 33rd at 29:11.9. Then came Hailey Schultz, earning 35th place with a time of 30:22. Savannah Dorshorst was next, in 37th place at 31:31.4. Addison Anderson Ruskin took 39th at 33:23.6. Hannah Dorshorst was 40th at 37:03.

The NG girls took sixth out of six teams with 173 points. Other team scores were West Salem 30, Viroqua 49, Mauston 90, Chippewa Valley Lightning Bolts 103 and Ellsworth 105.
