Chieftains duke it out with Falcons at home

By Ginna Young

Coming to call Sept. 21, was a determined Flambeau volleyball squad, but host team Lake Holcombe was also determined that the win wouldn’t slip by them.

Flambeau took the first set and the second, 25-21, but the Chieftains rallied to win the third and fourth sets, 25-20.

“Our passers were digging well and putting up great passes, to really get the offense going,” said coach Beth Meddaugh. “Ava Story was on fire, with 17 kills and helped at the net, with several blocks.”

With the sets tied at 2-2, it was up to the Chieftains to take control of the match and they did just that, winning the final set, 15-11, for a victory over the Falcons.

“I think that our hard work and conditioning also paid off tonight, as the team didn’t get tired, even in the fifth set,” said Meddaugh.

Junior Chloe Lee led with 25 digs, followed by junior Emmy Kirkman, with 22. Following Story, with her 17 kills, was junior Abby Jones, with 7, while Lee and senior Emma Lechleitner ended with 6 kills. Lee also came up big with 20 assists.

“I’m so proud of the team for stepping up to tonight’s challenge,” said Meddaugh.
