Cornell remains unbeaten within conference action

After actually winning the game last week with Birchwood, Cornell’s volleyball program is undefeated in the conference, after taking out the competition this week.

Sept. 9 vs. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser non-conference (W 2-0) Taking part in a tournament at Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, the Chiefs were ready to play, taking a win over the host team, 25-21 and 25-16.

Sept. 9 vs. Cumberland

non-conference (W 2-1) Next up was Cumberland, where Cornell won the first set, 25-16, but fell in the second set, 26-24. The Chiefs came back to win the third and final set, 15-9.

Sept. 9 vs. New Auburn conference (L 2-0) The Chiefs then faced off with New Auburn, who they’re well-acquainted with, dropping the sets, 25-22 and 25-10.

Sept. 9 vs. Siren non-conference (L 2-1) Finally, Cornell played Siren, falling in the first set, 2519, before rallying to claim a 25-18 win in the second set. Siren refused to back down, and the third and final set went to Siren, 15-8.

Leading the team in aces for the day, was junior Bralee Schroeder, with 8, who also notched 44 assists. Attack leaders were senior Brooke Anderson, with 19, while senior Brooke Sime and Schroeder had 17, and senior Makya Hetherington added 14.

Taking on the back row, were dig leaders Hetherington, with 43, followed by Anderson, with 33, and Sime, with 33.

Sept. 14 vs. Elcho non-conference (W 2-0) Cornell also traveled to Auburndale, for a mid-week quad, where they saw Elcho first, taking the victory in two sets, 25-12 and 25-18.

Sept. 14 vs. Owen-Withee non-conference (W 2-0) The Chiefs then met Owen-Withee, who put up a good fight in the first set, 25-22, before falling to Cornell in the second, 25-12.

Sept. 14 vs. Auburndale non-conference (L 2-1) Their last opponent was host team Auburndale and while it was a very close match in the second set, Auburndale took the win, 27-25. Cornell came back to claim the second set, 25-16, but couldn’t pull out the win in the third, dropping it to Aburndale, 15-8.

“Our overall record is now 8-3 and 4-0 in conference,” said coach Amy Lorenzen.
