Making the short-distance trek to Flambeau, the Lake Holcombe volleyball program took part in the conference match Aug. 31. The first set was a close one, but came out in favor of the Falcons, 25-22.
By the second set, Lake Holcombe refocused and took a 25-21 win, then went on to claim the third set, 25-22.
âThere were lots of âups and downsâ in the match against Flambeau,â said coach Beth Meddaugh. âA lot of things are going really well and we are learning more every match, about what we can work on in practice.â
The Falcons refused to go down and came charging back to win in the fourth set, 25-14. That forced the fifth and final set, which went to Flambeau, 25-14, giving them the match-up, 3-2.
âThe team played hard and kept fighting through all five sets,â said Meddaugh. âIâm very proud of them.â
Leading on kills, was senior Ava Story, 12, followed by senior Emma Lechleitner, with 1. Junior Abby Jones led in assists, with 8, while Story and senior Ella Hartzell each added 7.
Hartzell also notched 19 digs and Story was right behind, with 17.
âWe have all of the pieces of the puzzle,â said Meddaugh, ânow, we just need to put them together.â
