Excitement was high Aug. 18, as the Cadott football team began their season, hosting Stanley-Boyd, for a non-conference rivalry bout. It was also veterans night, with military members honored for their service from both communities.

It was a bit of a slow start, but Cadott got on the board first, with a touchdown run by senior Connor Roth, who also notched the two-point conversion. The Orioles answered back on the other end, with a touchdown of their own, to tie the game, 8-8.

Roth again punched through to the endzone in the second quarter for the Hornets, but the two-point conversion pass was unsuccessful by senior quarterback Jordan Peters. A few seconds later, a kickoff return from Stanley-Boyd put them ahead, 16-14.

The Orioles would score two more times before halftime, taking a 17-point lead into the break. A touchdown from the Orioles in the third quarter, was the only change to the scoreboard in that period. They also scored their final touchdown to open the fourth quarter.

Cadott tried to mount a comeback, with a touchdown pass from Peters to senior Nolan Blum, to make it 44-20, in favor of Stanley-Boyd. In a desperate attempt to narrow the gap, senior Easton Goodman ran in for a touchdown with just 51 seconds left in the game, and came up with the two-point conversion, but it wasn’t enough.

Time ran out and the game went to the Orioles, 44-28. Peters ended the night for Cadott, with 116 yards passing, 6 yards rushing and a touchdown. Goodman led on rushing, with 110 yards, followed by Blum, with 16, and junior Warren Bowe, who had 14, while Roth added 7.

Blum took top honors in receiving yards, with 61, while senior Axel Tegels notched 44 and Goodman finished with 11.
