After competing at Sectionals in Cameron, May 25, the Cornell-Lake Holcombe track team is sending two individual members onto to State, as well as a relay team.

“Our team goal was to get athletes to the State track meet and we have accomplished this,” said coach Laurie Bowe.

Earning first place as Sectional champion, was junior Trent Nitek in the 200-meter dash (22.04), who also placed third in the 100-meter dash (11.12). Junior Emma Lechleitner also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles, with a third place finish (47.21).

“I am very excited and proud of the athletes moving on to State,” said L. Bowe. “They have worked hard to get there.”

Lechleitner also was eighth in the 200-meter dash (27.80), while junior Marcella Boehm came in eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.48). Junior Lauren Samardzich ended in 10th place in the 800-meter run (2:35.29).

The girls 4x200-relay team of junior Haily Duffy, Lechleitner, Boehm and Samardzich, fell just short of State, with a seventh place finish (1:51.04).

On the boys side of the relay, the 4x200-meter team of Nitek, and seniors Blake Anders, Dylan Bowe and Avery Turany, qualified for State, by taking fourth place (1:34.54).

However, the 4x100-meter relay of junior Branden Moore, D. Bowe, Turany and Nitek, were ninth and shy of State qualifying, with a time of 47.27).

Turany was also just short of reaching State in the pole vault, with a height of 12-06, followed by D. Bowe in the 300 hurdles, with an 11th place finish (44.38), and Anders placed 12th in the triple jump (38-01.25).

“I am also proud of the athletes that competed at Sectionals, but are not moving on,” said L. Bowe. “They may not have made it to State, but they set new Knights records and personal goals.”
