Going into the playoffs as the No. 13 seed, Cadott’s baseball program headed to No. 4 Stratford, for the first round of Regional action, May 25. The Hornets hoped to advance, but Stratford had other plans, holding Cadott scoreless until the seventh inning, while adding runs throughout the game.
Cadott put two runs on the board in a last-gas effort in the final inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Stratford’s seven-run lead and the victory went to the home team, 7-2, putting an end to the Hornets’ year.
“Not the way we wanted to end the season, but the kids played hard and never gave up,” said coach Brandon Geist. “Have a lot to be happy about this season, as they had more wins this year, than last year.”
On the mound four innings for Cadott, was sophomore Warren Bowe, who allowed 5 hits, 6 runs and 3 walks, while striking out 6 batters. Junior Connor Roth also took a turn at the helm, going just over an inning and giving up 2 hits and a run.
Bowe, Roth, juniors Axel Tegels and Henry Danielson, and freshman Aiden Rykal all came up with a hit for the Hornets. As for senior Tristan Drier, Geist knows he will be missed, as he was a competitor and did everything that was asked of him.
“This ends season one for me as head coach here, and I’m happy with how this team kept working and coming along together,” said Geist. “Can’t wait to get back to work next year, and see what this team can build on from the success they had this year.”
