Moldrem wraps Cadott’s season with a no-hitter

By Ginna Young

Ending the regular season on a high note, the Cadott softball program saw a no-hitter added to the record books for sophomore Kasey Moldrem.

May 16 vs. Athens non-conference (L 9-2)

To begin, a tough Athens team came to call in the first of two home games over the week, in a non-conference matchup. Cadott held Athens scoreless throughout four innings, while coming up with a run of their own, but by the fifth inning, Athens’ offense woke up, with four runs knocked in.

The Hornets added one more run in the bottom of the fifth, but that was it, while Athens went on to score five more runs to take a 9-2 win.

Moldrem was on the mound for all seven innings for Cadott, giving up 9 hits, 9 runs, 10 walks and striking out 5.

On the offensive side, seniors Elly Eiler and Eva Enestvedt each notched 2 hits, while senior Lauryn Goettl and Moldrem added a hit each.

“The team overall played really well and stayed strong mentally through some unfortunate adversity,” said coach Karen Moldrem.

May 19 vs. Owen-Withee non-conference (W 12-0)

A few days later, yet more Cadott history was made, when the Hornets hosted Owen-Withee in a non-conference bout. In what is possibly only the second no-hitter in high school history for Cadott (the first coming from the baseball team earlier this spring), Kasey Moldrem was on the mound for the Hornets, pitching a no-hitter over three innings.

Cadott also came up big on the scoreboard, batting in three runs in each of the first and second innings, followed by six more in the third, to win the final regular season game, 10-0. The Hornets finished the season at 4-13 overall and were 2-12 in the West Cloverbelt Conference.

Offensively, Nerdrum had 3 hits, while sophompore Rilei Weeks had 2 hits, and Kasey Moldrem, Enestvedt, senior Morgan Moldrem, and freshmen Karlee Davis and Abi Davis all added a hit.

The Hornets will now face Augusta in the opening round of WIAA playoffs.
