Hornets hone skills as the season winds down

By Ginna Young

With three back-to-back-to-back matches under their belts over the week, Cadott’s golf program is ready for postseason action.

May 9 Marshfield

“The boys battled a challenging and extremely watersoaked course at RiverEdge,” said assistant coach Jon Erickson.

Coming in with the lowest score for Cadott, was sophomore Parker Davis, with a 102, followed by freshman Gavin Roscoe, who carded a 111. Sophomore Ewan Weir was next, with 112, followed by junior Logan Matherne, with a score of 117. Junior Jordan Peters rounded out the scoring with a 126.

“We are coming down the home stretch of our season and are looking to sharpen our skills over the next week, before the conference championship at Skyline Golf Course in Black River Falls, and then into the post-season,” said Erickson.

May 11 Eau Claire

“The boys played steady after having a slow start,” said Erickson.

After starting 7 over on the first holes, Davis righted himself to end with a 51, followed by Peters carding a 57. Matherne was right behind, with a 58 and freshman Collin Kowalczyk carded a 62.

“The rough at Eau Claire Country Club felt like U.S. Open conditions, with long, thick rough that was a challenge we have not seen yet this year,” said Erickson. “It provided a good test for everyone and it is always great to be able to golf there.”

May 13 Whispering Pines

To end the week, a home meet greeted the athletes on the links.

“It is always nice to be able to play an 18-hole match at Whispering Pines,” said Erickson. “The Stanley-Boyd coaches and Whispering Pines Golf Course do an excellent job hosting this event, and there are always high-quality teams and individuals at this tournament.”

Davis recorded the low score of the day, with a 97, while senior Tristan Drier added a 104 and Kowalczyk carded a 106. Peters followed that up with a score of 113 and Matherne ended with a 117.

“Overall, we had a better day of ball striking as a team,” said Erickson. “A few holes got away from us around the green, and we look to be more disciplined in our chipping and putting in our remaining events this season.”
