It was a rough week for the Cadott softball squad, as they dropped all four of their league match-ups to some hot-hitting teams.

April 25 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (L 4-2)

First up for the Hornets, was a double-header on the road against Stanley-Boyd. The Orioles got on the board first, scoring two runs in the first inning and another in the second.

Cadott managed to put two runs on the board in the third inning, but that would be it for the Hornets, while Stanley-Boyd added one more in the third. Neither team scored in the remaining innings and the Orioles took the win, 4-2.

Sophomore Kasey Moldrem went all six innings on the mound for Cadott, allowing 4 runs, 3 hits and 12 walks, while striking out 4.

Offensively, senior Lauryn Goettl came up with 2 hits, as did sophomore Rilei Weeks, with senior Elly Eiler, Moldrem and freshman Kennedy Nerdrum all recording 1 hit.

In the second game of the series, the bats came alive for both teams. Cadott scored 12 runs in the opening inning, opposed to just the two from the Orioles. The Hornets also notched another two runs in the second inning; however, Stanley-Boyd added another three runs in the second.

The Orioles then came up with two runs in the third and Cadott added one more in the fourth, but Stanley-Boyd wasn’t done and drove in six more runs in their side of the fourth inning. They didn’t stop there and added four final runs in the sixth inning, to take a 17-15 victory.

“We hit the ball well the second game and made better choices at the plate than the first game,” said coach Kari Moldrem, “but our mistakes on defense allowed too many runs to cross the plate for Stanley-Boyd.”

Goettl pitched two innings for the Hornets, allowing 7 runs, 2 hits and 11 walks, while striking out 2. Nerdrum was also on the mound for the Hornets, going four innings and giving up 10 runs, 5 hits and walking 4, with 2 strikeouts.

On the offensive side, Goettl and senior Eva Enestvedt had 4 hits, followed by Kasey Moldrem, with 3. Senior Laken Ryan and Nerdum each notched 2 hits, and senior Morgan Moldrem, Eiler, Weeks and freshman Abi Bowe all added a hit each.

April 27 vs. Fall Creek conference (L 9-1)

Next up, was Fall Creek on the road, where the Hornets started off the game with a run, but that was all they would get. The Crickets then put nine runs on the board, to take the 9-1 win.

Kasey Moldrem pitched the entire game, allowing 9 runs, 8 hits and 6 walks, and striking out a batter.

Weeks had the hot bat for the Hornets, with 3 hits, while Kasey Moldrem had 2 hits, and Eiler and Nerdrum each chipped in with a hit.

April 28 vs. Bloomer conference (L 10-9)

To finish out the week, the Hornets hosted Bloomer, in a windy, rainy battle for the league game. Bloomer struck first, scoring a run in the opening innings, but so did Cadott, to make it a tie game.

That score held throughout the second inning, until the Blackhawks came up with another run in the third and three more in the fourth inning. They also added one more run in the fifth, but Cadott’s bats got hot in the sixth inning, knocking in eight runs. Bloomer wouldn’t go down, however, and added four more runs to take a slim 10-9 victory.

Kasey Moldrem again took the mound for all six innings, allowing 10 runs and 11 hits, while striking out 6.

Eiler led for the Hornets, with 4 hits, followed by Kasey Moldrem and Weeks, with 2 each, while Goettl, Enestvedt, Morgan Moldrem and Nerdrum all had a hit each.
