Hornets sting Regis with blowout victory

By Ginna Young

In between bouts of snow and sleet, the Cadott softball squad traveled to Regis, April 21, for a conference match. Sophomore Rilei Weeks and senior Lauryn Goettl got the offense going in the first inning, with Weeks earning a walk, then Goettl connecting on her first home run of the year, giving the Hornets a 2-0 early lead.

“Then, the hit parade started the next inning,” said coach Kari Moldrem.

Cadott knocked in seven runs in the second inning, while Regis scrambled to score a run in their half of the inning, to make the score 9-1. Cadott added another run in the third inning and the Ramblers answered back with two of their own, but that would be it for them.

The Hornets went on to score seven more runs to take the game, 17-3.

Sophomore Kasey Moldrem went the entire time on the mound for Cadott, striking out 7, while allowing 5 hits and 5 walks.

As part of the hit parade, Goettl ended with 5, followed by Weeks, and seniors Elly Eiler and Eva Enestvedt, with 4 hits. Senior Laken Ryan also put hits on the board, with 3, and Kasey Moldrem and freshman Karlee Davis each added 2 hits. Freshman Kennedy Nerdrum chipped in with a hit of her own.

Cadott is now 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in league action.
