It’s been some time, since the Cornell-Lake Holcombe track team could host an invitational event, but it was worth the wait, as eight teams came to call April 14.

“It was exciting to have a home track meet at the beautiful Cornell track complex,” said coach Laurie Bowe.

With perfect weather for the event and a renewed excitement in the new facilities, the Knights athletes outdid themselves.

On the day, the boys team placed second, while the girls were third.

The relay teams also did well, with the 4x100-meter boys relay team coming in first, as well as the 4x200-meter team. Placing second, was the 4x400-meter team, while the 4x800meter team was fourth. The girls 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams also came in first.

Individually, for the boys, senior Dylan Bowe was first in the 300-meter hurdles (47.57) and junior Trent Nitek came in first in the long jump (20-05). Placing second, was senior Blake Anders in the triple jump (36-08.75) and third in the 400-meter dash (56.00), while senior Avery Turany was second in the pole vault event (11-06).

In the shot put, junior Will Peterson was third (33-09), followed by junior Carter Harycki, in sixth (32-05). Harycki also came in third in the discus throw (95-08), with Peterson placing seventh in that event (79-09) and freshman Anthony Schofield in 11th (72-11).

Senior Harley Schroeder earned fourth place in the high jump (5-06), followed by sophomore Hunter Anders, in eighth (5-02). Schroeder also was seventh in the triple jump (33-02), while H. Anders was fifth in the 200-meter dash (25.53). Freshman Logan Jaedike placed sixth in the 800-meter run (2:51.00) and eighth in the 400 dash (1:03.12), with Schofield in ninth in the 1,600-meter run (6:43.97).

In the 100-meter dash, junior Zach Schurtz was 11th (13.94) and freshman Ronin Minnich placed 13th in that event (28.33). Schurtz also came in 13th in the 200 dash (28.33) and 11th in the long jump (14-09), followed by sophomore Jared Raatz, in 12th (14-08). Minnich came in 15th in the shot put (25-01).

For the girls, junior Marcella Boehm was first in the 100-meter hurdles (18.46), while junior Emma Lechleitner placed first in the 300-meter hurdles (48.97) and in the long jump (16-06). Lechleitner was also third in the 200 dash (28.26), followed by junior Haily Duffy, in fourth (31.07).

Boehm also placed third in the long jump (15-00.25). In the triple jump, junior Lauren Samardzich ended in sixth place (26-11.75) and freshman Emma Wright placed sixth in the 400 dash (1:18.35).

“I am proud of all of the Cornell-Lake Holcombe athletes,” said L. Bowe. “Everyone performed well and I am very excited to see what we will continue to do.”
