It was a banner week for the Cadott baseball program, as they saw what possibly could be the first no-hitter in Hornets history.

April 11 vs. Owen-Withee non-conference (W 4-0)

On the road against non-conference opponent Owen-Withee, Cadott had nothing to fear from the Blackhawks’ defense, as sophomore hurler Warren Bowe was on the mound and was dominant, striking out 20 batters and notching his first no-hitter.

Although no records are available, those who’ve been around for 50 or more years, can’t recollect seeing a nohitter for the baseball team.

While on the mound, Bowe said he knew as the game drew to a close in the seventh inning, that he hadn’t given up a single hit, but he concentrated on getting each batter out as they came along.

“I’ve been throwing since December, so it was a matter of building intensity and the amount of pitches since then,” he said.

On the offensive end, junior Axel Tegels knocked in his first home run and in a big way, with a three-run homer in the seventh, to help give the Hornets a 4-1 win – the first of the year and the first for coach Brandon Geist. Junior Connor Roth also contributed a hit for Cadott.

“It was good for the kids to see success early, so [we] can build off of it,” said Geist.

April 14 vs. St. Croix Falls non-conference (L 11-1)

Next up, was an away match with St. Croix Falls, but scoring wouldn’t come easy to the Hornets, while the home team racked up run after run.

“Few mistakes early got us in the hole,” said Geist. “We settled down after the first and had couple of solid innings.”

The Hornets would only come up with one run on three hits, while the Saints added 11 runs to take the non-conference victory.

Bowe, Tegels and freshman Aiden Rykal all had a hit for the Hornets.

“Defensively, pitchers did a good job of throwing strikes and our offense did nice job of getting on base,” said Geist. “Just couldn’t get that hit when [we] needed it.”
