Cadott Youth Wrestling completed another successful season, full of learning and growing, both physically and mentally. This season, the team consisted of 115 wrestlers, who signed up in grades 4K through fifth.

The Hornets averaged 90 student-athletes each night, and finished with 107 wrestlers still attending practices at the end of the season “Our focus on a positive mindset and respect, allowed us to enjoy a great deal of success as a team,” said parent/coach Dan Yeager. “Our spotlight on overcoming the fear of losing and learning to wrestle fearlessly free, has helped our program tremendously.”

Over the year, the team placed first at tournaments across the state, including Medford, Bloomer, Chetek and Stratford, as well as doing well in multiple other events.

They also saw 52 wrestlers attend the youth Regional, surpassing the previous record of 32 in 2021-22). Of these wrestlers, 29 qualified for the State meet, setting yet another record (17, 2019-20). Finally, Cadott had 12 wrestlers make the podium at the State tournament in Madison, March 2425, beating their previous record, as well (eight, 2019-20).

“Each wrestler gave their all and displayed good sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome,” said Yeager. “By seeing this event as just another tournament, our studentathletes were able to wrestle under control and make good decisions on the mat.”

Bringing home the top honors for the Hornets, was Jacob Phelps, who was crowned as State championship. Besides, that title, the following Cadott athletes placed at the State level: Kamren Schuebel, Liberty Faber and Tessa York, second; Oliver Sudbrink, third; Evelynn Burgess, Brynley Hoff and Henry Hager, fourth; Sydney Spaeth, Wesley Doro and Jaymeson Ryan, fifth; and Jonathan Phelps, sixth.

Other athletes competing at State, were Sophia Slocum, Olivia Kelly, Freya Wagner, Obadiah Yeager, Gavin Slocum, Bronson Wiese, Drew Erickson, Weston Felce, Cooper Kelly, Oliver Slagle, Wyatt Ryan, William Wellner, Kellen Blanchette, Brenton Faber, Owen Fasbender and Brock Webster.

“We have had an excellent season and we have learned so much, as we continue to pursue our overarching goal: to win a State team title in high school,” said D. Yeager. “It takes a community, dedicated coaches and athletes, and a team-first attitude to make a run for the State team title, and we are on the right track.”
