Knights start off their season on the right foot

It’s fortunate that UW-Stout hosts an indoor track meet, as deep snow made it quite impossible to get outside March 25, for the Cornell-Lake Holcombe squad. Out of 30 schools who attended the event, the Knights placed well in their first outing of the season.
“The track meet went well,” said coach Laurie Bowe. Bringing in top honors for the boys, was junior Trent Nitek, who ran for fifth place in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 24.06, while senior Dylan Bowe placed 32nd (25.85) in that event and senior Avery Turany came in 51st (26.65).
In the 400-meter dash, senior Blake Anders ended in 15th (58.81), with sophomore Hunter Anders placing 19th (59.89). Sophomore Jared Raatz came in 37th in the 800-meter run (2:47.36) and 45th in the long jump (14-02). Senior Harley Schroeder also took part in the long jump, finishing in 25th (5-00), with H. Anders right behind, tying for 31st (5-00).
Meanwhile, freshman Ronin Minnick competed in the shot put event, for 57th (23-03.5).
On the girls’ side, junior Emma Lechleitner claimed eighth in the 55-meter hurdles (10.23), along with taking 13th in the 200 dash (28.91), while junior Lauren Samardzich placed 34th in that event (29.95) and junior Haily Duffy came in 58th (31.79).
Samardzich also placed 17th in the triple jump (27.02). Taking part in the 400 dash, freshman Emma Wright ended in 36th (1:17.89) and freshman Liv Repka was 48th (1:25.68).
In the relay events, the 4x400-meter team of B. Anders, H. Anders, Bowe and Nitek, placed 11th (4:03.21), while the 4x400 girls runners – junior Marcella Boehm, Duffy, Lechleitner and Samardzich, came in 10th (4:41.83).
“UW-Stout has an elite track meet that you have to qualify to attend,” said Bowe. “Trent, Dylan, Marcella and Emma (Lechleitner) all qualified to attend.”
