Eiler reaches 1,000th point, after switching up her style

By Ginna Young
Becoming the second Hornet this season to make 1,000 points on the girls basketball court for Cadott, senior Elly Eiler was the star of the show Feb. 7. Hosting Fall Creek, her milestone came on a post-up from a pass by fellow senior Eva Enestvedt.
Although she knew she was getting close to the mark, since her sister kept track, Eiler still never thought sheād reach the 1,000th point.
āUp until the beginning of this year, I would have said no,ā she said. āI have always been āthe passerā of the team, setting up everyone else for shots and getting others to score since my freshman year. Iāve always enjoyed drawing an extra defender and kicking the ball to my teammates, and watching them knock down a three.ā
But, last year, Eiler incorporated posting and moves to her game, as she never played post until then.
āIn a game, itās been great to use a post move Iāve been working on and scoring off of that,ā said Eiler.
Eiler also says that without the sharp-shooting skills of teammate Emma Kowalczyk, she never would have made 1,000.
āAn amazing shooter right there,ā said Eiler. āNo defender could leave her to help with me, otherwise I would kick her the ball for another three. Her growth in confidence in shooting this year, has been a great factor in allowing me to complete this achievement.ā
Eiler says she is very proud of the team and thankful for the support they have given her, with many good memories to leave her senior year with. In addition, Eiler gives credit to the rest of her teammates and to coach Dave Hazuga, for allowing the growth she needed to make her mark in the history books.
āI definitely would not have been able to do this without them,ā said Eiler.
