Cadott brings home three champions from Regionals

“The results were not for what we had hoped for.”
Despite those words from Cadott boys wrestling coach Josh Spaeth, the Hornets left Regional action at Edgar Feb. 11, with three champions crowned and nine moving on to Sectional competition.
“Some of our wrestlers did not finish matches and that is what we need to do this time of the year, in order to move on in the tournament series,” said Spaeth.
Winning a Regional title, was senior Brayden Sonnentag (132 pounds) over Glenwood City’s Peyton Rassbach, in a 1:15 fall. Senior Tristan Drier (152) also was crowned champion, winning his match over Stratford’s Kaleb Krummel, in a 3-1 decision, as was senior Cole Pfeiffer (160), winning against Marathon’s Hector Pintor, by fall, in 5:23.
Placing second for the Hornets, were senior Nick Fasbender (138), senior Dawson Webster (182), senior Levi Lindsay (195) and junior Axel Tegels (220), while junior Caden Kingston (170) came in third, along with sophomore Kaleb Lodahl (106) placing fourth.
They all move on to Sectional action at Edgar, Saturday, Feb. 18, where the grapplers will look to capture a State berth.
Out of contention for Cadott, were junior Lukas Simenson (113), in fifth; freshman Monte Lodahl (120); junior Nick Goettl (126), in sixth; and Wyatt Engel (285).
Without enough wins on their side, the Hornets were also eliminated from team competition this season, watching Stratford and Glenwood City move on.
“They outwrestled us on this day,” said Spaeth. “We will work hard this week, and prepare for Saturday’s individual Sectional.”
