Cadott will be a force to be reckoned with at full strength

By Ginna Young

The Cadott Hornets Boys Wrestling team was in action Jan. 21, as they headed to an invitational at Arcadia, known as the Raider Challenge. Cadott placed high on the day, individually and as a team, coming in second out of 16 competing schools.

“We were missing two weight classes this weekend, which held us back from winning the tournament,” said coach Josh Spaeth. “We need to concentrate on getting everyone healthy and filling our line up. If we do this, we will be a very competitive team.”

Seven wrestlers reached the finals for the Hornets, with five of them claiming the championship in their weight class.

Placing first, were sophomore Kaleb Lodahl (106 pounds), over Benny Olson, Prescott, in a 1:44 fall; senior Brayden Sonnentag (132), over Jackson Blaken, of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau-Melrose Mindoro (GET-Mel-Min), by fall, in 2:28; senior Tristan Drier (152), over Onalaska’s Bryce Buchanan, with a 9-1 major decision; senior Cole Pfeiffer (160), over Logan Kawa, Medford Area, in a 4-2 decision; and senior Dawson Webster (182), over Independence-Gilmanton’s Gavin Bragger, with a 7-0 decision.

“Brayden Sonnentag and Tristan Drier both dominated the competition,” said Spaeth. “Both are currently ranked No. 1 in the state. Brayden was voted the most outstanding wrestler of the tournament by the coaches.” Coming in as runners-up, were senior Levi Lindsay (195), who dropped his championship bout against St. Croix Central’s Parker Shackleton; and junior Axel Tegels (220), who dropped his match with Brayden Lockington (GET-Mel Min). “Axel had a great tournament,” said Spaeth. Also placing for the Hornets, were senior Nick Fasbender (138), in fourth; junior Lukas Simenson (113) and freshman Monte Lodahl (120), in sixth; junior Nick Goettl (126); freshman Mitchell Reinke (182), in eighth; sophomore Tucker Salzgeber (285), in 10th; junior Alex Jackson (285), in 11th.
