Chiefs fight back to see the match go to Panthers

To close out the year, Cornell played host to Gilmanton, for a boys basketball showdown. The non-conference match started out on a sour note for the Chiefs, but the scrappy team made a comeback in the second half.
“We opened the game with a turnover on our first offensive possession and missed shots at the rim our next two, which set the tone for an off-night, performance-wise,” said coach Steve Parker. “Gilmanton, meanwhile, drained three deep threes to open the game. I blinked and we were down by 10, early in the first half.”
Cornell went into the break down 29-17, but bounced back to outscore the Panthers in the second half of the game.
“I am proud of how our boys fought back to take a onepoint lead, with five minutes left in the game,” said Parker. “However, the game slipped away, due to a combination of a dismal shooting percentage, turnovers, and a lack of mental and physical toughness.”
With only 9 percent shooting from three-point range and missing over half their free throws, the Chiefs saw the game go to Gilmanton, 57-48.
“On the positive side, we out-rebounded Gilmanton by 16 and we kept their top two scorers in-check, defensively, as they finished the game below their season average,” said Parker.
Senior Blake Anders finished the game with 22 points, 18 rebounds, a assist, a block and a steal, while senior Dylan Bowe had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks and a steal. Junior Daniel Person ended with 6 points for the Chiefs, along with 10 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Sophomore Hunter Anders added 3 points to the mix, and juniors Bentley Spangler and Jayden Joas-Shaw each chipped in with 2 points.
Cornell now sits at 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.
