Hornets going strong, have work to do on season

Cadott’s boys wrestling program knows they have things to improve on, but the grapplers are learning as they go.
Hosting their first home dual of the season, Cadott went up against a tough Boyceville team.
“Hats off to Boyceville, they came to wrestle,” said coach Josh Spaeth. “It was a great environment to wrestle in. We have a lot of work to do before the end of the season.”
The Hornets fell behind early on, but came back with enough wins to tie Boyceville, after an exciting win from senior Kane Mengel (285 pounds) over Parker Coombs, by fall, in 1:05. The Cadott crowd was on a high from the bounceback, but Boyceville was determined to be the winners by a forfeit margin.
“The one forfeit was the deciding factor in the dual,” said Spaeth. “We got pinned seven times. This is an area that we need to fix if we are going to be a competitive dual team. We also pinned six times, which is great.”
Bringing in a win for the Hornets, was sophomore Kaleb Lodahl (113), as he got the fall over Rony Ramos in 1:33. Continuing his dominant fashion, was senior Brayden Sonnentag (138), who won by fall in 1:07, over Alex Obermueller.
Senior Nick Fasbender (152) also picked up a win in a 1:45 fall against Jake Bialzik. Senior Tristan Drier (160) also came up with the win over Jack Guenhagen, by fall, in 1:23. Senior Cole Pfeiffer (170) also won, with a 1:02 fall against Zach Kersten.
Picking up a win, was senior Dawson Webster (182), with a quick fall in :29, over Mark Knopps.
“We are working on filling all the weight classes, and will continue to improve each and every week,” said Spaeth.
The Hornets then headed to Wisconsin Dells, for the annual Devil’s Duals, where Cadott faced some hard competition.
“The Devil’s Duals is one of the toughest dual tournaments of the year,” said Spaeth. “Our team did very well against some outstanding competition. I felt every dual was winnable for the Hornets.”
First up, Aquinas won over Cadott, 52-21, but Cadott came

back to win over SPASH, 42-39. Iowa Grant/Highland then won over Cadott by a slim margin of 37-36, but the Hornets took the next dual against Mineral Point, by 48-33.
Their final bout of the weekend was against Ithaca-Weston, with Cadott prevailing in a big way, 58-13.
“We have some areas that are in need of improvement,” said Spaeth. “We have a lot of time left in the year to improve, and to reach our goal of going to team state. Overall, this was a fun and exciting experience for our team.”
