Hornets find success their first time on mat

By Ginna Young

In their first tournament of the season, the Cadott wrestlers were ready to face what awaited them at an Ellsworth Invitational Dec. 3, despite being a few weight classes short.

“We are hopeful we will fill the weight classes soon,” said coach Josh Spaeth. “This is a great group of kids and I can’t wait to see where the season takes us.”

Bringing in a championship for the Hornets, was senior Brayden Sonnentag (138 pounds), with a 16-0 technical fall win over Nathan Nelson, Mora, after he blew through the competition earlier in the day. Senior Dawson Webster (182) also brought in a championship, winning over Ellsworth’s Anthony Madsen, in a 7-2 decision.

“Brayden Sonnentag and Dawson Webster were simply dominant,” said Spaeth. “Brayden was voted by the coaches the most outstanding wrestler.”
