Chieftains drop both of their road games

By Ginna Young

Lake Holcombe saw a couple challenges over the week, as the boys basketball program took on non-conference opponents on the road.

Dec. 1 vs. Prentice non-conference (L 95-40)

First up, was Prentice, who brought their offense early on. The Chieftains were down by 38 points by the break.

“Tonight was a tough go-around, but with only Harley (Schroeder) as our returning starter, we knew there would be some growing pains,” said coach Joy Webster.

Lake Holcombe held Prentice to just 37 points in the second half, but only scored 20 more in the books. With the large deficit, the Chieftains were unable to catch up and the game went to the home team, 95-40.

“I am confident this team will gel and continue to improve as the season moves along,” said Webster.

Sophomore Brian Strzok finished the night with 14 points to lead Lake Holcombe, followed by the senior Schroeder, who had 11. Sophomore Ryley Craker ended with 9 points and junior Taye Yeager had 4.

Dec. 5 vs. Eleva-Strum non-conference (L 72-52)

It was then off to Eleva, for a battle with the Cardinals. However, the Chieftains again struggled to put enough offense on the board.

Eleva walked away with the victory, 73-52, bringing the Chieftains’ record to 0-3 on the year.

Strzok had a double-double on the night, with 19 points and 11 rebounds, with four shots from three-point land. Craker was right behind with 18 points, while Schroeder ended with 10. Yeager connected on a three-point shot and senior Abram Wininger had 2 points.

Schroeder pulled down 8 rebounds, followed by Ryley Craker with 6 rebounds, while Schroeder led the team with 6 steals, followed by Craker with 5. Craker led the team with 5 assists followed by Yeager with 4.
