Cadott runs over Regis by a landslide at home

By Ginna Young

It’s always a big game for Cadott’s girls basketball program when Regis comes to call and the conference game Dec. 2, was no exception.

“This game was a big game and big test for us,” said coach Dave Hazuga.

Despite Regis getting ahead early, Cadott kept on course and came back with a few big runs. By halftime, the Hornets were ahead by 13 and by the second half, it was all Cadott.

The Hornets outscored the Ramblers, 45-19, in the second half of the game.

“We have to work hard to execute our defense,” said Hazuga. “Offensively, sometimes, the ball just goes in a lot.”

Regis had no opportunity to catch up and Cadott walked away with a 90-51 win.

Senior Lauryn Goettl led for the Hornets with 27 points, two of the shots sinking for three-pointers. She also had 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Senior Elly Eiler was right behind, with 20 points, 12 of those coming from three-point land. Eiler also finished the night with 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Notching five shots from beyond the arc, was senior Laken Ryan, who ended with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

“This was Laken’s first game and it was great to have her back,” said Hazuga.

Freshman Taylor Hager also made her mark, coming away with 10 points, while junior Emma Kowalczyk had two longrange shots, finishing with 7 points and 3 rebounds. Senior Eva Enstvedt nabbed 11 rebounds on the night and scored 5 points.

Sophomore Kasey Moldrem also got in the scorer’s column, with 3 points, and senior Morgan Moldrem chipped in with 1 point, off a free throw.

Cadott is now 4-0 overall on the season and 1-0 in league play.
