LCO manages to sneak by Chieftains in buzzer beater

The first game of the season for the Lake Holcombe boys basketball program was an exciting match for all concerned, as Lac Court Oreilles (LCO) came to call Nov. 28.
Throughout the game, the match was close, but nothing could prepare the crowd for the buzzer-beating ending. The Chieftains were ahead of LCO in the final seconds by just two points. As the time ticked off to just 3 seconds, LCO lobbed off a shot from half-court and it sank in to win the game for the visitors, 62-61.
Senior Harley Schroeder led for the Chieftains, with 20 points, with three shots from long-range, as well as 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Sophomore Brian Strzok came next, with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists.
Following that, was sophomore Ryley Craker, who ended with 12 points, including two shots from beyond the arc, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Junior Taye Yeager also made a couple of three-pointers, adding 8 points to the mix, as well as 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 rebounds.
Senior Abram Wininger ended the night with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and an assist, while junior Trent Nitek had 2 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Sophomore Owen Meddaugh also chipped in with 2 assists.
