Bunton ends career at State meet for Tridents

Madeline Bunton, Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer Trident swimmer, not only wrapped up her season competing in the 500-yard freestyle at the WIAA State Championship meet Nov. 11, but also her high school swimming career.  At the State meet, she finished 16th in the event, in a time of 5:33.27.

“Maddy had a good race, but she was still battling a severe cold and just couldn’t swim as fast as she’s capable of swimming,” said coach Matt Bunton.

Madeline finishes her senior year as a Trident swimmer with the team record in the 500 and 200-yard freestyles, as well as the 50-yard backstroke. She also holds the pool record in the 500 freestyle.

Capping the year at State, the Tridents end their season with a record of 6-3, claiming third place in the Great Northern Conference.

“We had a great season,” said Matt. “There were plenty of great swims throughout the season, but we also saw incredible improvement, both individually and as a team. All of the girls brought the right attitude to the pool every afternoon, showing a willingness to work hard and a want to improve their technique.”
