Despite little rest each week, with multiple games under their belts in a single day, the Cadott volleyball team is seeing success as the season starts toward completion.

Sept. 20 vs. Thorp conference (L 3-0)

Starting the week, the Hornets made the short trek to Thorp, for a battle with the Cardinals.

The first set was a close affair, but went to Thorp, 25-21. The Hornets couldn’t catch up in the second set, which the Cardinals took, 25-17. In the third and final match, it was the closest one yet, but Cadott still saw it go to the home team, 25-22.

Leading on the night, was senior Elly Eiler, with 13 kills and 10 digs, while senior Lauryn Goettl ended with 8 kills, 16 assists and 13 digs. Junior Emma Kowalczyk recorded 6 kills on the night and 12 digs.

Two days later, Cadott acted as host to rival Stanley-Boyd, with energies high for the match.

Cadott fell behind early on, dropping sets one and two, 25-16.

“We had a slow start to the match, struggling to keep serves in play and not getting the quality swings we wanted,” said coach Lynn Schreiner. “We finally came together and battled the third set, falling just short.”

Although it was a close battle going right to the end, Cadott watched the third set – and thereby the game – go to the Orioles, 26-24.

Goettl notched 9 kills, 9 assists and 4 blocks, with Eiler adding 5 kills and 18 digs. Kowalczyk finished with 5 kills, 13 digs and 5 blocks.

Sept. 24 vs. Marshfield Columbus non-conference (L 2-1)

It was then off to Medford over the weekend, with Marshfield Columbus the first opponent of the day. The Hornets couldn’t bring in the win and saw the sets go to their opponents.

Sept. 24 vs. Mellen non-conference (W 2-0)

Mellen was next on the list for Cadott, with the Hornets taking a 2-0 victory to build some momentum.

Sept. 24 vs. Medford non-conference (W 2-0)

Host school Medford was next up on the day’s agenda, but Cadott made quick work of them, in a 2-0 win.

Sept. 24 vs. Gilman non-conference (W 2-0)

The final foe of the day, was Gilman, who proved no match for the Hornets, earning Cadott a 2-0 victory.

Goettl came away with 27 kills, 28 assists and 26 digs, followed by Eiler, who had 17 kills, 29 digs and 4 aces. Kowalczyk recorded 12 kills, 27 digs and 2 aces, and sophomore Tarynn Donahue had 20 assists, 19 digs and 3 aces.

“We battled all day,” said Schreiner. “We found ourselves down a few times; however, really stayed composed and fought our way back to wins in the end.”
