By Ginna Young

The Lake Holcombe football program packed up and traveled to Alma Center-Lincoln Sept. 9, in a non-conference showdown. The Hornets stung first, putting up six points on the board in the opening quarter.

The Chieftains answered back in the second quarter, with a 15-yard run by sophomore Ryley Craker, followed by a two-point conversion, to go up 8-6. The Hornets got on the board again in the third quarter with a touchdown, but Lake Holcombe wasn’t done.

Coming up with a touchdown by junior Trent Nitek, the Chieftains took the lead in the fourth quarter, 16-14. However, the Hornets scored one last time, to reel in a 22-16 win.

Senior Max Sauerwein recorded 37 yards in passing and had 135 yards rushing. Craker added 72 yards in rushing, followed by Nitek, with 37. Craker also had 37 yards in receiving.

On defense, Sauerwein came up with a sack, while Craker had an interception.
