Despite warm temperatures, the Cadott cross country program did themselves proud Sept. 8, in a meet at neighboring Stanley-Boyd.
Carrying off honors for the day, was the girls team, who finished first out of the six competing teams, while individually, senior Peter Weir crossed the finish line ahead of all the boys, for first place, in a time of 17:51.8.
“Girls were a bit worried about the heat and humidity, but once into the race, they went after their goals,” said coach Tom Weiss. “Peter led the entire race and our second runner is a talented freshman – only his second cross country race in his career.”
The freshman Weiss spoke of is Saibyn Will, who finished the race in 23rd (20:59.5), while senior Dawson Webster ran his first ever race, finishing 26th (21:15.7). Sophomore Ewan Weir came in 30th (22:09.6), with senior Jake Rowe right behind, in 31st (22:12.3).
Junior Sage Handrick ended in 38th for the Hornets (23:07.4) and freshman Gryphen Lindeman was 52nd (25:07.3).
For the girls, freshman Iszy Sonnentag placed in the top five, coming in fourth (23:47.3), with junior Jaycee Stephens a few steps behind for sixth (25:16.9). Freshman Josie Roth cruised in right after for a seventh place finish (25:25.3), followed by sophomores Lyla Weggen, for 10th (25:58.8).
Sophomores Mia Weggen and Courtney Weggen placed 24th and 25th, respectively, with times of 28:07.8 and 28:09.3. Rounding out the field, freshman Lexi Bremness was 33rd (29:55.4) and freshman Marley Mengel was 34th for the Hornets (29:57.8).
“It was a very good outing,” said Weiss.
