Busy start to season shows promise for Cadott

There was no easing into the new season for the Cadott volleyball program, as the Hornets jumped right into a triangular at home, then a two-day invitational at UW-Stout.

Aug. 23, vs. Neillsville non-conference (L 2-0)

Up first in the triangular, was Neillsville, where the Hornets dropped the matches, 25-16 and 25-14. During the bouts, senior Lauryn Goettl ended with 4 kills and 7 digs, while senior Elly Eiler had 3 kills and 5 digs.

Aug. 23, vs. Augusta non-conference (W 2-0)

Augusta was next for Cadott, with the Hornets taking the games, 25-19 and 25-23. Goettl came up with 7 kills, 4 aces and 10 digs, and junior Emma Kowalczyk finished with 5 kills.

Aug. 26-27, vs. Oshkosh West non-conference (L 2-0)

Over the weekend, the Hornets then took on Oshkosh West, but dropped the two matches, 25-19. Goettl led with 7 kills, 3 aces and 9 digs, and Eiler came away with 2 aces and 4 digs.

Aug. 26-27, vs. Grantsburg non-conference (L 2-0)

The Hornets then took on Grantsburg, dropping those matches as well, 25-18 and 25-16. Goettl ended the bout with 6 kills and 7 digs, while Eiler had 3 kills and 9 digs.

Aug. 26-27, vs. Hudson non-conference (L 2-0) Up next, was Hudson, where the Hornets saw the two matches go to their opponents, 26-24. Goettl had 9 kills and 8 digs for the Hornets, followed by Eiler, with 3 kills, 4 assists and 10 digs, and junior Makenna Harel ended with 2 aces and 8 digs.

Aug. 26-27, vs. Medford non-conference (W 2-1)

Cadott then took on Medford, coming up a with the win. Goettl again led, with 9 kills and 8 digs, and Eiler finished with 3 kills, 4 assists and 10 digs. Harel came up with 2 aces and 22 digs.

Aug. 26-27, vs. non-conference (W 2-1)

The Hornets also faced off with Colby, getting a win over the like-named Hornets. Cadott saw Kowalczyk end with 6 kills, 3 aces and 6 digs, while Goettl had 7 kills and 8 assists, followed by Eiler, who had 5 kills and 3 digs.

Aug. 26-27, vs. Barron non-conference (W 2-1)

Barron was the next opponent, with the Hornets taking the win. Goettl had 8 kills, 2 aces and 6 assists, with Kowalczyk scoring 6 kills and 6 digs, while Eiler recorded 5 kills and 9 digs.

Aug. 26-27, vs. Menomonie non-conference (W)

The Hornets also took the win over Menomonie.

Aug. 26-27, vs. Hudson non-conference (L 2-0) Cadott again faced Hudson, where they again saw the matches go to their opponents, 25-19 and 25-14. Kowalczyk again got on the board, with 5 kills and 7 digs, and Goettl had 5 kills and 4 aces.

Aug. 26-27, vs. Athens non-conference (L 2-0) It was then time to face Athens, with the Hornets dropping the matches, 25-19 and 25-14. Eiler ended the game with 5 kills, Goettl had 6 kills and 8 assists, and Harel had 3 aces and 8 digs.

Aug. 26-27, vs. E.C. North non-conference (L 2-0)

In their final match, the Hornets took on E.C. North, dropping the matches, 25-16 and 25-17. Goettl came up with 4 kills and 5 digs, while senior Laken Ryan had 8 digs and Eiler recorded 6.

The Hornets were seeded 30th going into the tournament, but rebounded, battling agressively to take eighth in the large field.

“It was so great to see the growth of the team over one weekend and I look forward to seeing where they go from here,” said coach Lynn Schreiner.
