Hornets silenced by Crickets at Sectional

Going into the Sectional match-up against Fall Creek May 31, the Cadott softball team knew it wouldn’t be an easy game, as Fall Creek won over the Hornets twice already this season, when they met in-conference.
“The girls came ready to play and battled hard,” said coach Kari Moldrem. Striking first, the Crickets got on the board in the first inning with a run, but Cadott answered back with a run of their own in the second inning. However, that would be the Hornets’ only run.
Fall Creek added another run in the third, then drove in nine runs in the fifth and final inning, to take the 11-1 win and put an end to Cadott’s season.
“The score doesn’t really reflect how well the girls played, but needed to put the ball in play to score more runs,” said Moldrem.
Pitching for 4.33 innings, senior Makenna Barone took her last shift on the mound in high school, giving up 12 hits, 9 runs and 4 walks, while striking out 4. Freshman Kasey Moldrem also spent time on the mound, allowing 2 runs and walking 3.
On the offensive side for the Hornets, junior M. Moldrem had 2 hits, with Barone and freshman Rilei Weeks chipping in with a hit each. Weeks also walked once in the game.
“The girls had a great season, making it to Sectionals for the first time since 1984,” said Kari Moldrem.
