Hornets send 18 athletes onto Sectional competition

Cadott’s track team saw a successful week, with the conference championship and Regional action.
May 17 Stanley-Boyd Conference Championship
It was off to the West Cloverbelt Conference Championship at Stanley-Boyd, for the Hornets, with multiple finishers in the top 10 during the events.
Placing second for the boys in the high jump, was senior Cameron Messenger, with a personal best (5-06), while senior Gavin Tegels was third in the shot put with a personal best (46-03). Messenger also placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (17.51) and fifth in the triple jump (36-05.5).
Senior Kaleb Sonnentag finished fourth in the pole vault (10-00).
On the girls side, sophomore Emma Kowalczyk set a personal record in the 100-meter hurdles (17.59) for first place and a conference championship, followed closely by sophomore Jaycee Stephens in second (17.62). Junior Julia Sedlacek also placed fifth in the 100 hurdles (19.04) and Stephens was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (53.66), with a personal best.
Freshman Cortney Weggen also set a personal record in the 3,200-metter run, coming in fourth (14:51.2) and Kowalczyk was fifth in the triple jump (32-00) for a personal record.
May 23 Flambeau Regional
Up next, was Regional competition at Flambeau, where Cadott made a good showing, sending 18 onto Sectional action (top four in each event), as well as advancing three relay teams.
“We had a very good meet, with both teams finishing in the top three,” said coach Pat Rothbauer.
Coming in as Regional champion, was Sonnentag, who placed first in the 200-meter dash (24.47), while Tegels was also champion in the shot put (42-09). Earning second place finishes, was Messenger, in the 110 hurdles (18.01) and high jump (5-06), followed by sophomore Wyatt Engel in third in the 110 hurdles (19.21) and sophomore Dylan Drehmel for third in the high jump (5-06).
Sonnentag placed third in the 300 hurdles (45.04), while senior Tad Weiss was fourth in the 3,200 run (11:05.53), and Tegels came in fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.85) and in the discus throw (105.02).
“Our hurdlers continue to be very good performers at meets,” said Rothbauer.
For the girls, Kowalczyk was second in the in the 100 hurdles (17.81), with Stephens right behind in third (17.86). She also came in third in the 300 hurdles (52.34). Weggen placed third in the 3,200 run (14:27) and Sedlacek was third in the pole vault (7-00).
Freshman Mia Weggen came in fourth for the Hornets in the 1,600-meter run (6:21.93) and junior Lucy Lindeman was fourth in the discus throw (91-05).
On the relay side, the 4x400-meter team of Kowalczyk, Sedlacek, Stephens and M. Weggen, were second (4:30.65). The 4x800-meter relay of freshman Mckenna Steinke, M. Weggen, freshman Lyla Weggen and C. Weggen, placed third (11:25.06).
Ending in fourth in the 4x200-meter relay (1:58.98), was the team of senior Mallory Kyes, sophomore Kendall Webster, freshman Adrianna Goodman and Sedlacek.
