Cadott drops final two to Macks and Ramblers
By Ginna Young
For the end of the regular season, the Cadott baseball program saw a two-game home stretch to close out the year before playoffs begin.
May 17 vs. McDonell conference (L 20-0)
In a conference match-up, McDonell came to call on the Hornets, but the bout was entirely one-sided.
The Macks put up 20 runs in the game, while Cadott was left scoreless, for the shutout.
May 23 vs. Regis conference (L 18-1)
After almost a week to bounce back from the loss to Mc-Donell, Cadott was ready to hit the field at home against Regis. The contest was evenly matched in the first inning, with both teams bringing in a run, but from then on, it would be the Ramblers who added to the scoreboard.
“This is a good Regis team, and they hit the ball hard and found the gaps,” said coach Spencer Kempf.
Regis added a run in the second inning, then belted in 13 in the third, two in the fourth and a final run in the fifth in- ning, to take an 18-1 victory.
“We didn’t help ourselves with errors and giving away extra outs,” said Kempf.
Sophomore Henry Danielson pitched 2.1 innings for Cadott, giving up 9 hits, 9 runs and 4 walks, while sophomore Axel Tegels went .2 innings, allowing 6 hits, 6 runs and walking 2. Senior Ethan West went 1.1 innings, with 2 hits and 2 runs, and freshman Warren Bowe went for .2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run and walking 2 batters.
Offensively, senior Ryan Sonnentag and junior Tristan Drier came up with 2 hits each, while Tegels, West and sophomore Connor Roth all had 1 hit each. Freshman Jackson Barone ended with a walk, as did West and sophomore Easton Goodman.
“We hit the ball hard and got runners on base, but just couldn’t capitalize,” said Kempf.
The Hornets end the regular season with a 3-12 overall record and 2-10 in the West Cloverbelt Conference, just ahead of Regional action.
