Knights ready to run as season heads to finish

The Cornell-Lake Holcombe track team came ready to run over the week, as the race to the finish begins.

May 10 Colfax Invitational

It was a perfect day to hit the track at Colfax, as the Knights traveled for the invitational, making a good showing amongst a large field of teams.

“We finally had a nice day for a track meet,” said coach Laurie Bowe. “The track athletes performed some of their best tonight.”

Individually for the boys, junior Blake Anders carried off honors in the 400-meter dash (54.52) and was ninth in the triple jump (36-07), followed by junior Avery Turany, for fifth in the pole vault event (11-06). Junior Dylan Bowe came in eighth in the pole vault (10-06).

On the girls side, sophomore Emma Lechleitner placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (51.40) and sophomore Marcella Boehm came in seventh in the long jump (15-03).

“This meet has helped us see where we will need to improve, coming into Regionals,” said L. Bowe.

May 13 New Auburn Invitational It was then off to a meet at New Auburn, where the boys team took first place and the girls brought in second out of six schools.

“We had athletes trying different events to prepare for the conference track meet,” said L. Bowe.

Coming in first place individually on the boys side, was junior Dawson Munson in the 110-meter high hurdles and Turany in the pole vault, with a personal best of 12 feet. Placing second, was Anders in the long and triple jumps, as well as the 400 dash.

Bringing in first for the girls, was Lechleitner in the 200-meter dash and 300 hurdles, while Boehm was first in the long jump and 100-meter high hurdle. Sophomore Lauren Samardzich placed second in the 800-meter run.

In the relay events, Turany, sophomore Daniel Person, D. Bowe and Anders took first in the 4x200-meter relay, while sophomore Brooke Sime, Boehm, Samardzich and sophomore Haily Duffy, also placed first in that event.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Sime, Boehm, Lechleitner and Duffy, also came in first.

“Everyone did well, and we are prepared for conference and Regionals,” said L. Bowe.
