Cadott takes two out of three in conference action

By Ginna Young

As the season winds down, the Cadott baseball program is hitting their stride.

May 10 vs. Regis conference (L 16-4)

“We played a really good Regis team and were able to have a pretty good offensive showing,” said coach Spencer Kempf.

At the away game, Regis jumped out to an early lead, knocking in six runs, before Cadott drove in three runs in the third inning. The Ramblers then added another five in their side of the inning and would come up with five more over the next two, while Cadott only scored one final run.

“We hit the ball hard and put runs on the board,” said Kempf. “They took advantage of the players they had on base, with timely hitting.”

Sophomore Henry Danielson went 2.2 innings for the Hornets, allowing 6 hits and walks, with a strikeout, while sophomore Ashton Bremness went for 1.1 innings, giving up 3 hits and 5 walks.

Sophomore Axel Tegels came away with 2 hits on the day, and junior Tristan Drier and freshman Warren Bowe each had 1 hit.

May 12 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (W 6-2)

It was then off to Stanley-Boyd, for a conference matchup, where scoring was at a premium throughout most of the game for both teams. The score was deadlocked at 2-2 until the top of the seventh, when the Hornets knocked in four runs to take a 6-2 victory.

“Warren Bowe was lights-out on the mound and drove in four big runs,” said Kempf. “Tristan Drier had a clutch hit in the top of the seventh, to put us ahead for good.”

Bowe only gave up 4 hits all game, striking out 12, while coming up with 2 hits offensively for Cadott. Seniors Ryan Sonnentag and Ethan West each had a hit, as did Drier and freshman Parker Davis.

“I was really happy with the play from the team, this is what we expect to see from our guys,” said Kempf.

May 16 vs. Osseo-Fairchild conference (W 8-6)

Taking on the final foe of the week, the Hornets hosted Osseo-Fairchild, in a close contest.

“Our offense has really been showing up with a lot of contributors,” said Kempf.

The Thunder may have struck first in the opening inning, but Cadott answered right back, with four runs. The Hornets would go on to add two more, before Osseo-Fairchild struck back with two of their own in the fifth inning. Cadott brought in two more runs and while the Thunder came up with three in the sixth, Cadott won the game, 8-6.

“Parker Davis, Tristan Drier and Jackson Barone all had important RBIs last night,” said Kempf. “Warren Bowe continues to pitch well and gives us a chance to win every night, regardless of who we play. Conner Roth has been excellent in his relief role.”

Bowe went 5.2 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 12, with the sophomore Roth pitching 1.1 innings and striking out 2 batters.

On the offensive side, Drier had 2 hits, and Sonnentag, Tegels, Roth, Bremness, Davis, West and the freshman Barone, all had a hit.

“The team continues to play its best baseball of the year.,” said Kempf.
