Hornets get feel for how the events should be run

By Ginna Young

Making the short trek to Stanley-Boyd for a meet May 6, the Cadott track team was ready to show how they’ve improved over the season.

“It was a great night, as all of our athletes were able to compete and the weather cooperated,” said coach Pat Rothbauer.

Coming in second for the boys in triple jump, was senior Cameron Messenger (37-11.75), while sophomore Wyatt Engel placed ninth in that event (33-11.5). Messenger also finished in third in the 110-meter hurdles (17.53) and Engel came in eighth (18.88).

Senior Kaleb Sonnentag had a pair of second place finishes, with one in the 100-meter dash (11.92) and one in the 300-meter hurdles (45.84). Sonnentag also placed eighth in the pole vault event (10-06).

Placing fourth in the shot put, was senior Gavin Tegels (44-04), and senior Tad Weiss was 10th in the 800-meter run (2:17.47).

“We had numerous PRs and the athletes are starting to get a feel for what they will be running, and how they should run each race,” said Rothbauer.

Placing first for the girls side, was freshman Lyla Weggen in the 3,200-meter run (15:21.41), while sophomore Jaycee Stephens was first in the 100-meter hurdles (17.66), followed by sophomore Emma Kowalczyk for second in that event (17.77). Placing second in the 1,600-meter run, was freshman Cortney Weggen (6:47.01), and Kowalczyk ended in fifth with the 300 hurdles (53.72) and seventh in the triple jump (29-07).

Stephens ended in seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:08.78), with junior Lucy Lindeman a step behind in eighth (1:11.1). Senior Mallory Kyes came in seventh in the 100 dash (14.06) and sophomore Mckenna Harel was seventh in the 800 run (3:04.46).

Junior Julia Sedlacek came up with ninth place for the Hornets in the 100 hurdles, while Adrianna Goodman was hot on her heels for 10th (20.50). Goodman also placed eighth in the long jump (14-06).

“We only have two meets left before conference, so, hopefully, we will get both meets in,” said Rothbauer.
