Squeezing in four games over the week, Cadott’s softball program hosted all but one of the conference bouts.

April 26 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (W 11-8)

Stanley-Boyd was first on the schedule, in the first of two games at Cadott’s field. The Orioles struck first, knocking in a run in the second inning, but Cadott was hot on their heels, bringing in 5 runs in their side of the inning.

Adding another two runs in the third inning, the Orioles tried to catch up to the Hornets, but Cadott would add a run of their own in the fourth. Each team scored five runs in the fifth, while Cadott brought in another run in the sixth.

The Orioles made one final attempt in the seventh, getting two runs on the board, but it wasn’t enough, and the Hornets walked away with the game, 11-8.

Senior Makenna Barone went all seven innings, allowing 8 hits, 8 runs and 3 walks, and striking out 10.

On the offensive side, freshman Rilei Weeks had 3 hits, followed by Barone, and juniors Laken Ryan and Elly Eiler, with 2 hits each. Senior Olivia Goodman, and juniors Lauryn Goettl and Eva Enestvedt each came up with 1 hit.

April 26 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (W 14-5)

The Hornets didn’t have any luck in the other game of the double header on scoring, watching Bloomer put up 11 runs on the board to Cadott’s zero, for the conference win.

Barone pitched four innings, giving up 9 hits, 11 runs and 3 walks, while striking out 1.

Goodman came up with the only hit for the Hornets.

In the second game of the series against Stanley-Boyd, Cadott’s offense kicked into high gear, belting in seven runs in the first inning and one in the second, while leaving the Orioles scoreless. The Hornets continued to score, adding four in the third inning.

Stanley-Boyd answered back in the fourth inning, with all five of their runs, while Cadott put up another run in their side of the fourth and another in the fifth. When the game was called because of darkness, the Hornets were the victors, 14-5.

Goettl went the whole time on the mound, with 2 hits, 5 runs and 6 walks. She also struck out 4.

Goodman ended the day with 3 hits, while Goettl, Barone, Enestvedt, junior Morgan Moldrem and Weeks, all had 1 hit.

April 28 vs. Fall Creek conference (L 19-3)

Two days later, Fall Creek was on Cadott’s field, but the Hornets would be the ones who had trouble scoring in the conference match.

“Fall Creek has players with speed that put us in situations that we hadn’t had a lot of experience with yet,” said coach Kari Moldrem.

The Crickets jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning, adding four more in the second, one in the third and nine in the fourth inning, while Cadott remained scoreless until their side of the fourth, bringing in three runs. That would be it for the Hornets, as Fall Creek had two more runs cross the plate, for a 19-3 win.

“It was one of those days where everything worked for the other team,” said K. Moldrem.

Barone went three innings on the mound, allowing 8 hits, 8 runs and a walk, but striking out 4. Goettl then took over, giving up 13 hits and 11 runs.

Coming up with 2 hits for the Hornets, was Barone, with 2, followed by Eiler, Enestvedt, M. Moldrem and Weeks, with 1 hit each.

April 29 vs. Bloomer conference (L 12-1)

To finish out the week, the Hornets made the trek to Bloomer, for their second double header of the week. Unfortunately, the Blackhawks were on a hot streak.

It started out slow, with Bloomer getting on the board first, with one run in the opening inning, then two in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth inning. Cadott would score their lone run in the fifth inning, while Bloomer went on to add four more runs in the sixth inning, to reel in the 12-1 victory.

Goettl again took the mound for the Hornets, going six innings, with 14 hits and 12 runs scored on her, while walking 4 and striking out 3.

Eiler, Enestvedt, Weeks, Goettl and freshman Taryn Donahue all came up with 1 hit.

April 29 vs. Bloomer conference (L 11-0)
