The Cornell-Lake Holcombe Knights Track team might be a little rusty from not enough time outdoors, but two meets over the week helped shake off the rust.

April 28 Bruce Invitational

Heading to Bruce, the Knights saw many of the athletes take second place on the boys side, including junior Dawson Munson in the 110-meter hurdles (20.90) and sophomore Daniel Person in Heat 2 of the 100-meter dash (13.08). Freshman Hunter Anders also came in second for the 400-meter dash (59.76), while junior Avery Turany was second in the 200-meter dash (26.02).

Anders also was second for high jump (4-08) and sophomore Jayden Joas-Shaw ended in second for the pole vault event (7-06) “Many athletes performed their best,” said coach Laurie Bowe. “We are taking these track meets to try different events, so we are ready for the conference meet and Regionals.”

Sophomore Zach Hughes was third in the first heat of the 100 dash (14.25), while sophomore Carter Harycki was third in the shot put (26-01), followed by sophomore Will Peterson in fourth (28-00.5). Peterson also placed fourth in the discus (67-10), with Harycki in fifth (69-04). Hughes ended in fifth for the Knights in the long jump (13-06).

On the girls side, sophomore Lauren Samardzich came home with second place for Heat 2 of the 200 dash (30.63), while sophomore Emma Lechleitner was fifth in that heat (29.5). Samardzich also placed fifth in the 400 dash (1:11.09).

In Heat 2 of the 100 dash, sophomore Brooke Sime was third (14.05) and senior Carly Vavra was fifth in triple jump (27-11).

“I am very proud of all the athletes for their hard work and dedication during this crazy season,” said Bowe.

May 2 Cadott Invitational

Up next, was an invitational at Cadott, where a chilly meet didn’t keep the Knights down. Junior Dylan Bowe brought home first place for his team in the pole vault (10-6) with a personal best, followed by Turany in second (9-6). Junior Blake Anders also came up with first, for the triple jump (36-3) and placed second in the 400 dash (55.06).

H. Anders was fourth in that event (1:00.77), while Dawson finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (50.86). Turany set a personal best in the 200 dash (25.98), while D. Bowe was a step behind in fourth (25.99). Munson also set a personal record in the 100 hurdles (20.52) and Harycki was fifth in the discus (86-3).

For the girls, Vavra placed first in the triple jump (28-6) for a personal best, while sophomore Marcella Boehm was first in the long jump (13-7.5) and Lechleitner also finished first in the 300 hurdles (53.97). Vavra also ended in second in the 800-meter run (3:01.29) and Sime was third in the 100 dash (14.39).

Lechleitner came in third in the 200 dash (29.50), followed by sophomore Haily Duffy for fourth (30.35) and Samardzich in fifth (30.62), while Boehm was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (20.83).

On the relay side of things, the boys team of Turany, Person, D. Bowe and B. Anders, ended in first in the 4x200meter event (1:47.54), and the girls team of Sime, Boehm, Samardzich and Duffy, placed first in that event, as well (1:58.97). Sime, Boehm, Lechleitner and Duffy also came in first in the 4x100-meter relay (57.19).

“We are excited about the next track meets coming up,” said L. Bowe.
