Knights hit the track for the first time this season

Finally getting on a real track to see what they can do, the Cornell-Lake Holcombe Knights Track team headed to the Northern Badger Classic March 26, at UW-Stout’s Johnson Fieldhouse.

“We had a number of athletes try new events,” said coach Laurie Bowe. “As a team, both boys and girls, we did well.”

Placing in the top 10 for the boys side, were juniors Avery Turany and Dylan Bowe, who came in eighth and 10th, respectively, with heights of 10-00 and 9-00. Junior Blake Anders also placed high, running the 400-meter dash for 15th (58.24), and also placing 15th in the high jump (35-04.5).

Coming in 20th for the Knights, was junior Dawson Munson (10.55) in the 55-meter hurdles, and 30th in the high jump (5-00). D. Bowe had a time of 26.01 in the 200-meter dash, placing 37th.

“Many of the athletes from last year, did their personal best,” said L. Bowe.

Turany placed 46th for the 55-meter dash (7.56), followed by sophomore Zach Hughes, who placed 50th in the large field in the long jump (13-01) and 52nd in the 400 dash. Freshman Bentley Spangler was 50th in the long jump (11-04.25), while sophomore Will Peterson was 50th in the shot put event (27-08.5).

Sophomore Jayden Joas-Shaw ended the day in 85th in the 55 dash (8.48) and 95th in the 200 dash (30.99), with Spangler finishing 93rd in the 200 (30.43).

In the 4x400-meter relay, boys placed 13th (4:02.43). On the girls side, individually, sophomore Emma Lechleitner placed 16th in the 55 hurdles (11.05), followed by sophomore Marcella Boehm in 20th (11.29). Sophomore Brooke Sime also finished 20th, placing in the 55 dash (8.29), while junior Haily Duffy was 26th (8.41).

In the long jump, Boehm was 22nd (13-02) and junior Abigayle Harrison placed 28th (12-07.25). Meanwhile, in the triple jump, senior Carly Vavra came in 24th (25-09) and 28th in the 800-meter run (3:09.71).

Sophomore Lauren Samardzich was 31st in the 400 dash (1:16.30). In the 200 dash, Brooke ended 37th (30.90) and Duffy was 44th (31.46).

As a team, the 4x400 relay squad placed 12th (4:49.37). “We used this meet as a practice, since we have not been able to get on a track,” said L. Bowe. “I am excited to see what they can do this season.”
