Being known as a three-point threat is impressive – knocking down 83 of those shots in one season – epic. That’s exactly what Lake Holcombe senior Dylan Bowen did for the 2021-22 basketball season, for his Chieftains team.

“I would definitely say going into my senior year, I’ve always wanted to be one of the best three-point shooters in our conference,” he said.

Over his high school career, Bowen has made 131 of the long-range shots, but it wasn’t until his junior year, when he realized he could be a really good three-point shooter. With that in the back of his mind, he pushed hard and practiced whenever he had the opportunity to.

“During the off-season, I would always try to pick up a basketball and put up a lot of shots,” said Bowen. “During practice, I would always work hard and work on shooting, and taking the shooting drills we did seriously.”

Bowen credits his head varsity coach Joy Webster and assistant coach Chris Clark, for pushing him to get to be more confident taking three-pointers and finding ways to get open for the shots.

On the court, when Bowen makes a three, he said he feels excited. “When I hit a few back-to-back, it feels really good and I kinda just get in the groove,” he said, “and when I’m in my groove, I can usually hit a lot of threes a game.”

Now that his senior season is over, Bowen says he’ll really miss playing the game, as basketball was something he truly enjoyed playing. He also loved playing with all his teammates the past four years.

With the next chapter just starting, Bowen can call on his memories of time with his team and his fond memories on the court.

“I’m pretty happy with myself and where I got to, skill-wise.”
