Hornets drop away games

By Ginna Young

Cadott’s basketball program stepped out of the conference on the boys’ end, as the Hornets took on their opponents in away matches.

Feb. 3 vs. Auburndale non-conference (L 80-37)

To begin the away stretch, Cadott headed to Auburndale, to face a high-scoring team.

The Hornets couldn’t muster much offense in the first half, watching Auburndale take a 41-19 lead into the break. The second half would look much the same, with Cadott limited to just 18 points, while Auburndale continued to score.

The final score would see the home team take the win, 80-37.

Freshmen Warren Bowe and Braden Schneider each shot a three-pointer, as did sophomores Jordan Peters and Nolan Blum, with Schneider finishing with 7 points, while Bowe and Peters had 5, and Blum ended with 3.

Senior Cameron Messenger recorded 9 points on the night, followed by junior Tegan Ritter, who had 3. Sophomores Brodee Burish and Dylan Drehmel each chipped in with 2 points, and senior Ryan Sonnentag rounded out the scoring, with 1 point.

Feb. 7 vs. Athens non-conference (L 48-32)

After a weekend’s rest, the Hornets then made the trek to Athens, where the game was a lot closer than the previous one in the week.

Although Cadott only put seven points on the scoreboard in the first half, as opposed to Athens’ 28, the Hornets came to life in the second part of the game. Cadott scored 25 points, while holding Athens to 20, but with the deficit from the first half, the lead was too great to overcome before time ran out.

Athens walked away with a 48-32 victory. Leading for Cadott, was Bowe, with three shots from beyond the arc, followed by Messenger and Sonnentag, with 6 points each. Senior Ethan West also knocked down a threepointer.

Peters and Burish each added 2 points, and Schneider and Blum each chipped in with 1 point.

The week’s losses drop Cadott’s overall record to 5-14.
