Cadott’s girls basketball program added to their win column over the week, after taking on some tough competition.

Jan. 25 vs. Osseo-Fairchild conference (L 60-49)

First up, was Osseo-Fairchild, who paid a visit to Cadott on their home court, with the Thunder looking for revenge on the Hornets’ win over them earlier in the season.

“We knew it was going to be tough, after beating them at their place,” said coach Dave Hazuga.

The Thunder went into halftime with a seven-point lead, but Cadott wouldn’t give up, but eventually conceded the game to the Thunder, 60-49.

“It was a physical game, we fought hard,” said Hazuga. Junior Lauyrn Goettl scored big on the night, with 32 points, including a couple of three-pointers. Junior Elly Eiler was next, with 13 points, while sophomore Emma Kowalczyk had 4.

“We’re continuing to improve and that’s the most important thing,” said Hazuga.

Jan. 28 vs. Thorp conference (W 59-35)

A few days later, Cadott headed to Thorp, where the Hornets dominated the Cardinals in the first half, taking a 34-8 lead into the break.

“Our defensive execution got off to a great start, which led to a comfortable halftime lead,” said Hazuga.

Although the Hornets were outscored in the second half, the first-half lead was enough to push Cadott to a 59-35 win.

“We’re getting back healthy, everyone looked comfortable,” said Hazuga. “We shared the ball and shot the ball well.”

Leading the way for Cadott, was Goettl, who ended the night with 30 points, 12 of those from three-point land. She was followed by Ryan, who had 9 points, all from three-pointers. Eiler was right behind, with 8 points, including a shot from beyond the arc.

Kowlaczyk added 5 points, while senior Olivia Goodman shot a three, finishing with 4 points. Freshman Kasey Moldrem chipped in with 3 points.

“We have a tough stretch coming up, we’re looking forward to it,” said Hazuga.

Jan. 31 vs. Whitehall non-conference (W 60-44)

The last opponent of the week, saw Cadott stepping out of the conference, to host Whitehall. The first half went back-and-forth in terms of foul trouble.

“It was a tough game,” said Hazuga. “The girls played hard tonight.”

By halftime, Cadott had pulled away for an eight-point lead and never relinquished the game, coming up with a 60-44 win.

“We got better as the game went on and focused on the things we need to do better,” said Hazuga.

Eiler recorded a career high 32 points, knocking down a threepointer, followed by Goettl, with 10 points. Kowalczyk came next, with 7 points, while Goodman was right behind, with her 6 points coming from beyond the arc.

Burish and junior Morgan Moldrem each came up with 2 points, and junior Eva Enestvedt chipped in with 1 point.

“We had a lot of foul trouble, but everyone stepped in and contributed,” said Hazuga.

With the wins, the Hornets improve their overall record to 15-4 and 7-4 in the West Cloverbelt Conference.
