Chieftains take win over Warriors, fall to Bulldogs

It was a week of highs and lows for the Lake Holcombe boys basketball team, with the games split between the match-ups.

Jan. 25 Boyceville conference (L 86-62)

To start the week off, the Chieftains hosted Boyceville in a non-conference clash. The Bulldogs jumped out to take a 43-29 lead into halftime.

“The Chieftains had a new starting line-up to adjust to on Tuesday night, and it just took a little while to get things going,” said coach Joy Webster.

With the first-half deficit behind them, Lake Holcombe couldn’t bounce back and Boyceville walked away with the win, 82-62.

Leading for the Chieftains, junior Harley Schroeder had a season high 23 points, followed by senior Dylan Bowen, with 20. Senior Sam Ewer added 9, followed by senior Brendan Anders, with 8, while senior Nate Jones chipped in with 2 points.

Anders and Schroeder combined for 11 rebounds. Jones, Ewer and Anders all led the team with 4 assists each, and Bowen led the team with 3 steals.

Jan. 28 vs. Winter conference (W 74-67)

To finish out the week’s games, Lake Holcombe hosted Winter, with the conference match a close affair throughout.

The Chieftains took a one-point lead into halftime and limited the Warriors to just 29 points, with Lake Holcombe taking a 74-67 win.

Bowen had a career high 32 points, followed by Schroeder, with19. Anders also put double-digits on the board with 14 points. Ewer added 5, followed by freshman Ryley Craker, with 3, and Jones, who chipped in with 1.

Schroeder had another double-double, with 10 rebounds, and Bowen and Ewer also had a strong night on the boards, with 7 and 5, respectively.

Jones ended with 7 assists, followed by Ewer, with 6, and Anders, with 5.

“The team also shot great from outside, with Dylan hitting five, threes, Brendan four and Ryley Craker with one,” said Webster.

The Chieftains now sit at 6-10 overall and 6-4 in the East Lakeland Conference.
