The week was full for the Cadott girls basketball program, as they took on two conference rivals, before stepping out of the conference.

Jan. 11. vs. McDonell conference (L 51-36)

First up on the schedule, was McDonell, with the Hornets making the jaunt to take on the Macks. Cadott was outscored 29-15 in the first half, but the Hornets picked it up a notch in the second, with scoring evenly matched.

“We did some good things and we were in the game most of the way,” said coach Dave Hazuga. “They are a ranked team in the State and probably the best team we played so far.”

With the Macks having the advantage on the scoreboard from the first half, Cadott saw the game go to McDonell, 5136.

“We definitely learned a few things and I think we’re going to get better from this,” said Hazuga.

A few days later, Cadott was on the road to Regis, in a battle for the win.

“Tonight‘s game was a big game for us and we knew it,” said Hazuga.

The second half was more of the same, but Cadott held their ground and slipped by Regis, for a 56-52 victory.

“We had contributions from everyone,” said Hazuga. “We had foul trouble, players had to make adjustments.”

Eiler and Enestvedt each had 17 points on the night, with Eiler knocking down a three-pointer. Kowalczyk also notched two shots from long range, ending with 12 points, followed by Goettl, with 6. Ryan also shot from beyond the arc, adding 4 points.

“Our goal is to continue to improve as individuals and as a team, I feel we are doing that,” said Hazuga.

Jan. 17 vs. Boyceville non-conference (W 70-34)

For their third match-up of the week, Cadott again found themselves on the road, going up against Boyceville.

“We started out slow, then went on a nice run, getting a good lead into halftime,” said Hazuga.

The Hornets took a 29 point lead into the half-way mark, but Boyceville wasn’t done. In the second half, the home team put 18 points on the board, holding the Hornets to 25 points. Cadott wouldn’t let go of their lead and as time ran out, claimed a 70-34 non-conference win.

“We subbed in a lot of players, and got nice experience and contributions from everyone,” said Hazuga. “We passed and moved the ball around till something opened up.”
